All of our courses are taught in our fully equipped woodworking and furniture studio located in Royersford, PA (about 30 miles outside of Philadelphia). Whether you’ve just started woodworking and carpentry as a hobby, or you’ve spent years honing your craft, we have the tools, experience and expertise to help you fine tune your skills.
Geared towards beginners, this class covers woodworking basics: buying and preparing wood, understanding seasonal movement, power tools (hand and stationary), shop space/equipment, types of joints, layout tools, hand planes vs. sanders, and finishing.
On this 1 day class we will show the best choices for planes, chisels, and dovetail saws, as well as power sharpening devices and water stones. We will demonstrate how to properly sharpen chisels and plane irons and keep them sharp. You will learn how power sharpening devices and water stones can co-exist. We will use Japanese saws and demonstrate between Japanese and Western tools.
