Meet the Director
When you sign up for 1st Avenue’s woodworking classes in Philadelphia, you’ll work alongside a professional, friendly furniture maker named Edward Schoen. Mr. Schoen first discovered his passion for woodworking when he was required to take a fine arts class at Bucks County Community College in the 1970s. He had never done woodworking before, but he decided to try it out. Soon, he fell in love with the activity and decided to pursue it as a career.
In 1978, he moved to California and began working in cabinet shops. Then, he enrolled in the Fine Woodworking program at the College of the Redwoods. After graduating, he moved back to Pennsylvania and continued to work in various cabinet shops. Eventually, he was hired by a renowned furniture maker in Bucks County and became the manager of the 30 woodworkers in his shop.
Today, Mr. Schoen and his wife, Sherrie, run a furniture business called Signature Gallery LLC. He spends his time meeting with clients, designing custom pieces, and bringing them to life.
A true woodworking legend, Mr. Schoen has been featured in magazines like American Woodworker and Audio Video Interiors along with several local newspapers. Additionally, he and his work have appeared at craft and furniture shows around the country. Now, Mr. Schoen is ready to pass along his expertise and help you discover the joys of woodworking.
