Finished custom cabinetry in a custom kitchen.

If you always wanted to tackle that big home improvement job but were put off by what seemed to be the overwhelming nature of kitchen cabinet design and construction, we will demystify this project by showing some fairly straight forward design and construction options, such as:

  • How to make face frames
  • Frameless cabinetry
  • How to build cope & stick doors
  • How to build machine made dovetailed drawers
  • Building cabinets with inherent strength
  • Hanging doors and drawers
  • Installing hardware
  • Innovative hardware options

In this 2 weekend class we will begin with an overview of the power tools available for use in the shop.  We will demonstrate the safety issues associated with each tool as well as their strengths and weaknesses.  We will go over how to make a cut list, how to select wood, how to dimension, glue up, and prepare parts for assembly.  Participants will build a 30″ cabinet with either a frame or frameless design, build doors, and fit a drawer, with the option of making it a free standing cabinet.  We will demonstrate:

  • Using concealed European hinges
  • Using mortisless Butt hinges
  • Knife hinges installation
  • Hang a drawer with undermount slides

Tools required:

  1. 4″ or 6″ double square (optional combo square)
  2. Cordless drill
  3. Tape measure
  4. Hammer & nail set
  5. 5. Set of 4 bench chisels
